My first time at the 2010 EIBTM by Rin Mitchell

At this year´s EIBTM exhibition, which ran from November 30-December 2 in Barcelona, focused on Return on Investment (ROI) for exhibitors, visitors and Hosted Buyers. With over 3,300 exhibiting companies representing 92 countries, more than 30 education sessions and five official networking events, EIBTM 2010 provided the meeting industry with the environment to deliver business and ROI.

The hospitality industry is one of the few industries where you can mix business with pleasure.  Exhibitors came out strong with their exhibition booths to attract business professionals and demonstrate how they can help the business seal any deal with a client. Walk up to any country´s booth and a smiling face was there to greet you with an invite for a bite to eat or a refreshing beverage.  Whether it was a request for more information or a sit down with a specialist to talk in depth about the needs of your company and how they can assist you in meeting your needs, you did not walk out of there with unanswered questions or empty handed. Some exhibitors incorporated their cultural traditions with their booths.  Malaysia brought along some dancers, the tea mixing champion and food from their country to share with their visitors.  Just across the way, Scotland had a presenter that wore a kilt and shared a poem about the haggis, which is a traditional dish in Scotland. Visitors were given samples of the haggis to try and a whiskey cocktail to wash it down

Having attracted a record total attendance last year of over 8,170, and this year with even more attendees, Exhibitors recognized the importance that EIBTM plays in their marketing plans.  Despite the economic recession the industry continues to recognize the importance of events like EIBTM, which deliver return on investment.

  1. Just read your piece about your first visit to EIBTM. We handle the event’s global PR and would love to get your email address and pass it to the organisers so they can get in touch themselves. Glad you found it useful and hope that you will attend in 2011…….regards, Nina Gardiner
